Maryknoll Robotics Team: #2441

Noblesse Oblige- "To Whom Much is Given, Much is Expected"

Maryknoll Robotics- Team #2441

Who are we:

We are the Maryknoll Robotics team from Honolulu, HI.  Our team is comprised of 19 members, whom most are entirely dedicated to the team.  The team began with Ms. Cadirao.  Ms. Cadirao was a new teacher to the Maryknoll High School from the 2006-2007 school year.  She had the idea to start a Robotics team at the end of the year.  A few of her Physics students (then freshmen) and a few upperclassmen attended the Kickoff of FIRST in Hawai'i.  There, we saw other teams robot from the previous season, along with Founder Dean Kamen, Governor Linda Lingle, Lieutenant Governor Duke Aiona, and many more prominent members of the government, and of FIRST.  The next year, Maryknoll officially created the Maryknoll Robotics Team.  We have participated in the Bridge Battle Vex Tournament, and we won first place along with 'Iolani.  We hope to join the Bridge Battle Vex Robotics World Championship in Northridge, CA in May.  We are now participating in the 2008 FIRST Robotics season and getting ready for the "First Overdrive" game.  Go Spartans!

Team Goals:

When we began our robotics team, we were young and naïve.    At first, our goals were to have a robot that works, to bond with each other, to learn, and to be safe.  However, now, five months later, we have lived up to our goals.  We made a robot that worked, and even won the VEX tournament in first place in alliance with ‘Iolani school.  We have deeply bonded with each other through the long nights and snacks.  We all learned many new things, including things about our selves, and everyone around us.  We all were safe, wearing our goggles, and making sure to take extra precautions.

After what we as team have gone through, we gained knowledge, and now know better.  We now have more goals, and more dreams in mind.   With these goals and dreams, we launch off into the future.

The Name of our Robot:

The name of our robot for our Rookie year is named "Bot Pocket."  We decided to name it Bot Pocket because our freezer is never without a box full of Hot Pocket's for snacks.  We consider the Hot Pocket's (especially Pepperoni Pizza) our fuel, because whenever we offer choices of food to the team, everyone loves a good ole' Hot Pocket!

 Noblesse Oblige:

Noblesse Oblige is Maryknoll School's motto.  It is French for, "To whom much is given, much is expected."

Maryknoll has given so much to our Robotics team, and we would like to give back to the Maryknoll community to repay for what they have provided for us.

One way in which our team has given back to the community, was participating in a team community service project.  On the 15th of December, we took part of the Honolulu Gift Fair.  The members of the Robotics team participated in many ways.  One of the activities the members did, was to welcome and give pamphlets to the guests.  They also collected and threw away trash.  We also collected and organized donated canned goods.
